LEARNING GOAL & PURPOSE

This is an inspiring story of change where students of Payakoi Primary  School, Gujarat, India were bothered about one of their friends, who was not able to come to school because of his disability. They used a bicycle to pull him to school every day. When it broke, they took turns to bring him to school, sometimes carrying him. Played games he could join in and made him feel comfortable. With this experience of social awareness and teamwork, students can see a practical experience of how there can be simple solutions to problems around them. It is only a matter to Feel about them and then come up with a doable solution.

Lesson Plan

  • Show the video (about 3 minutes). Reflection: How have you feel? Can you think about challenges that a person with disabilities has to face every day?
  • Experts groups: students have to make a research about how technology can help people with disabilities. TIP: groups can be different disabilities, so each group has to focus on how technology has helped (or even better, should help! Be creative!) to society
  • Each group has to explain to others what they have discovered. TIP: would be great if they can show some video, or draws of the technology used, make a PPT…
  • Each group will answer to other groups about how they feel about that disability, and how they think nowadays technology is helping. TIP: what do student know about usability? Maybe a good moment to explain this concept, how to create with users and not for users!

TIP: project creation, can choose one disability in groups and create a prototype, how would the students help?
