LEARNING GOAL & PURPOSE

This is an inspiring story of change from students of Captain Jose Azueta Elementary School, Nuevo Leon, Mexico where they were bothered by no space to play for them. Together as a team, they converted an unused field into an orchard and play area. A true testimony of collaboration and problem solving which will leave you with an inspiration.

Lesson Plan

  • Show the video (about 2 minutes). Group talk: Can we make a list of all the resources the people from Mexico have used in this project? TIP: Introduce concepts as volunteering

  • Work on teams, distribute all the resources involved and make a research: we want to know the costs. TIP: what do we know about overhead costs? Investments: public vs private?

  • Now we know about the investment needed for a project like this. Can we think about bringing a change in our school/surroundings? TIP: Let students be creative, what do they need/want? Make them be realistic!

  • Communication skills: we have a project now. How would we show our idea? How to talk about a business plan, and make a presentation? What kind of investors do we need? TIP: would be awesome if can find an expert to make this talk, a young person with a startup could be very encouraging!

  • Reflection: Are we able to make our project real? Where should we start from?
