LEARNING GOAL & PURPOSE

This is an inspiring story of change from students of Captain Jose Azueta Elementary School, Nuevo Leon, Mexico where they were bothered by no space to play for them. Together as a team, they converted an unused field into an orchard and play area. A true testimony of collaboration and problem solving which will leave you with an inspiration.

Lesson Plan

  • Show the video (about 2 minutes). Group talk: what do we know about the land for planting trees, flowers…? What resources would those trees and flowers need?

  • Work in groups! Every group to go deeper into the adaptation of plants in different geographic regions  TIP: any special plant to focus on? Would be interesting to know more about plants in deserts, or carnivore plants!

  • Groups have to make a presentation about the research they have been doing, posters, ppt, video… all ideas are welcome! TIP: encourage students to ask questions. Use post-its for this activity to avoid shy people!

  • Students to identify which region do they fall in and check out plants around them TIP: Teacher can take them out fora nature walk and identify different plants seen in the neighbourhood

  • Let's become gardeners! Shall we plant any plants? Different ones, so students see the different needs of all of them, different soils (minerals, water…). TIP: shall we plant some trees also? Make the school an awesome place!
